Resolving the “Everything is Urgent” Production Syndrome in Today’s AI 4.0 Era!

05 Jun 2025
Maintenance

Maintenance maturity surveys show that more than 80% of asset-intensive companies experience the issue that the Production corrective maintenance requests are always urgent and must be done immediately.

When everything is urgent, there is no priority, and the wheel that squeaks the loudest gets the grease! It is one of the fundamental reasons why organizations operate in reactive mode, and struggle to get out of it.

This presentation identifies the potential cause of this syndrome and presents a proven approach that every company can implement to resolve this issue and have production and maintenance work as a single team in planned mode, to ensure the right work is performed at the right time to prevent equipment breakdown and maximize production output.

The following elements will be presented:

  • Fundamental causes of the ‘Everything is Urgent’ production syndrome
  • Potential remedies
  • Setting the vision by the Plant Manager
  • Making an execution compliance agreement (‘ECWA’) between maintenance and production on when corrective work must be done to prevent equipment failure.
  • Communicating the ECWA efficiently to all maintenance and production stakeholders.
  • Identifying Potential Failure intervals (‘PFI’) and risks of failure based on AI predictive analytics, or experience.
  • Ensuring the corrective work required to prevent equipment failure is always done on time within the ECWA, by implementing an efficient multi-week rolling schedule process.
  • Measuring compliance of the ECWA in order to maximize trust and teamwork between maintenance and production
